THIS POST WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 2016
If you’ve already said, “I’m not signing up for the Open” this post is for you.
2014 was a pretty bad year for me. On July 4th while recovering from knee surgery my heart went into ventricular fibrillation and I spent a month in the hospital. So the good news is that I’m still alive and back doing CrossFit workouts almost everyday.
Even though there is a lot I can’t do I’m loving my workouts more than ever. Why would I say that when I can’t squat or lunge because of my knee that wasn’t fixed by the surgery?
It’s because I’m focused on what I can do and not what I can’t.
So presses, bell swings, toe 2 bars, knee to elbows, rowing, pull ups, power cleans and power snatches bring them on.
So what’s the point. I’m officially signed up for this year’s open. Yes, that’s correct I’m in the 2015 Open. Yes, I have over 100 reasons why I should take a pass and skip the open but not this time.
I’m in. Are you?
If you’re holding out because you suck at double unders or are scared because you will finish in 148,541st place you need to sign up anyway. Participating in the open makes you part of something far bigger than yourself and will inspire you do things you never thought possible.
Sign up because of what you can do and be part of something bigger than yourself. The open is special and the more of you who participate the more amazing it will be.
If you are looking for a fitness program and want to start CrossFit I hope this motivates you to do so.
