April 12th at 8am (in lieu of Kettelbell class), CrossFit I35 will be hosting the Tactical Strength Challenge, which is a strength challenge consisting of three events:
- A three-attempt powerlifting deadlift
- Pullups for max reps (except women’s novice – this will be a flexed arm hang for time)
- Kettlebell Snatches for max reps in a 5:00 time period
To sign up, head over to //www.tacticalstrengthchallenge.com/register/user and select CrossFit I35 as your gym and Christine Argo as your trainer (we’re working to get Scott’s name added as well to that trainer list, as we are both qualified to judge the event). The cost to register is $25, and if you sign up in time, you will receive an event t-shirt as well! Plus, all TSC participants will receive a discount code for products at 5.11 Tactical, and the winners of each division will receive free gear from 5.11 Tactical! For details, see the blog on the TSC website! This event is open to all strength and kettlebell enthusiasts. Invite your friends and members of other gyms.
There are 6 divisions – Men’s Elite, Men’s Open, Men’s Novice, Women’s Elite, Women’s Open, Women’s Novice. You can find each division’s description at //www.tacticalstrengthchallenge.com/rules
The Tactical Strength Challenge tests the three primary types of strength; absolute strength using the deadlift, body weight-relative strength with pull-ups, and cardiovascular endurance through kettlebell snatches. The three events test a unique trade-off between these abilities. While larger participants may have an advantage in the deadlift, lighter participants have an advantage in pull-ups, and the kettlebell snatch tests all participants equally.
The rules are simple, the training is hard, but the opportunity to say you faced the Tactical Strength Challenge and survived makes it all worthwhile!
